On the move: Latest appointments and promotions

Charles Sweeney has been appointed to the position of chief executive of Critiqom, following the recent departure of former managing director Neil McCallum.

Sweeney is noted as having a proven track record in senior management positions within technology companies. He said: “This is an exciting period for the business – Critiqom has achieved remarkable growth in the last five years, backed by Archangel funding.”

JW Filshill, owner of the KeyStore convenience store brand and one of Scotland’s oldest food and drink wholesalers, has appointed Chris Miller to the new position of group commercial director. Miller will be responsible for the day-to-day strategic direction of the overall group as well as focusing on new business opportunities. Filshill launched its international business in 2014 and Clan Brewing Company last year.

Accountancy firm Campbell Dallas has appointed Blair Milne as a new partner in the firm’s business recovery and insolvency practice. Milne has more than 20 years’ insolvency experience and has worked on many high-profile cases, including Muirfield Contracts. He has extensive knowledge of the issues facing the leisure and retail sectors.

Deloitte has continued its investment in Scotland with the appointment of three new partners and six directors across its three offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Chris Hunter, Matt Smith and Michael Magnay are among Deloitte UK’s 80 new partners, in the firm’s largest-ever round of promotions. There were three director promotions in Deloitte’s audit and risk advisory practice: Kevin Johnson, Michael Caullay and Stephen Pratt. From the tax practice, Aberdeen-based Hazel Gray and Iain McDonald from the firm’s Glasgow office have also been promoted to director. They are joined as directors by Ruth Campbell from the transaction services team.

Grant Thornton has appointed a new tax associate director in the Scottish practice as the financial and business adviser implements its growth strategy in Scotland. James Strang has more than 14 years’ experience, including nine years in his previous post at EY, specialising in the oil and gas sector – from upstream exploration to oilfield service groups. The Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser will be based at Grant Thornton’s Edinburgh office.
