Joyce Downie, managing director of the Hillington-based firm, said the pool would be a “unique offering” for oil and gas and marine workers, who currently have to travel to the North-east of Scotland for their survival training.

She added: “In searching for a banking facility which would allow us to realise our growth strategy, the unanimous decision to accept Barclays innovative offering was undoubtedly the correct one.”

Alan Maudsley, head of corporate development at Barclays Corporate Banking in Scotland, said: “The Clyde Group is a great example of an organisation that has diversified successfully into complementary new sectors while still retaining a strong market share and reputation in the marine industry.

“With an experienced management team in place and robust plans for developing the business, this is exactly the type of company we are keen to support as we increase our loan book in Scotland.”
