No need for Greece to borrow till mid-March

GREECE'S borrowing needs are covered until mid-March and Athens is so far meeting goals set out in an austerity plan, Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou said yesterday.

Asked whether there would be any new Greek bonds issued this week, the PM said in a television interview: "At this point we don't have a need for borrowing, our borrowing needs are covered until mid-March."

Papandreou said that despite street demos against austerity measures his government had taken to tackle the debt crisis, he believed there was broad support in Greek society for them.
