New legal counsel named at Scotch whisky trade body

The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) has appointed Caitlin O'Donnell as legal counsel, joining its team of lawyers specialising in protecting Scotland's national drink.

O’Donnell, a graudate of the University of Glasgow, joins the trade body from law firm Maclay Murray & Spens, where she was a senior solicitor in the commercial dispute resolution team.

She said: “I’m delighted to join the SWA to work with the team to contribute to the protection of Scotch whisky around the world.”

The SWA legal team is led by Alan Park, who was recently promoted to director of legal affairs following the retirement of Magnus Cormack. It also includes two senior legal counsel – Kenneth Gray and Lindesay Low – O’Donnell’s fellow legal counsel Andrew Swift and paralegal Dawn Bellamy.

SWA chief executive David Frost said: “Our new legal counsel Caitlin O’Donnell brings further commercial and civil law expertise to the SWA to support the skills of the existing team.

“We are ideally positioned to safeguard Scotch globally and ensure it remains the world’s leading high-quality spirit drink.”
