Nelson in line to take lead role at ICAS

A FORMER vice-chairman of KPMG who now holds non-executive directorships with Royal Bank of Scotland and BP is set to become the president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

Brendan Nelson has been nominated as vice-president of the accountancy body, meaning he will take the president's post in 2013, succeeding Sir David Tweedie.

Nelson chairs the group audit committee at RBS and also sits on the chairman's and audit committees at BP. Prior to taking up these non-executive roles, Nelson had a career in professional practice with KPMG, where he became vice-chair of the UK practice.

ICAS president Alan Thomson said: "Brendan is highly regarded in business and his contribution to the profession in general and to the institute in particular has been hugely positive."
