Morrisons '˜bake officer' rises to the challenge

Supermarket giant Morrisons has appointed what it says is the UK's first dedicated 'bake officer' in anticipation of TV series The Great British Bake Off returning to screens next week.

Keen baker Anastasia Duncanson received her job offer by cake, and she is in charge of monitoring buying trends prompted by the show in 492 of the retailer’s stores.

She has been ensuring it has the most popular ingredients in store, with the chain noting that last year it saw an “unprecedented spike” in sales of glace cherries and almond extract, up 163 per cent and 110 per cent respectively. It predicts trends this autumn such as metallic frosting.

Duncanson said: “Being chosen to watch TV and react to baking trends is an absolute dream job so I am delighted to be appointed to the dedicated role of ‘bake officer’. I will be keeping a close eye on trends and managing demand to ensure we satisfy the baking needs of our 11 million customers.”
