The whisky producer, whose portfolio includes Auchentoshan, Bowmore and Glen Garioch, was acquired by Suntory in 1994. Last year, the Asian drinks giant swallowed American peer Beam in a move that created the world’s third-largest spirits company.

Newly published accounts for Morrison Bowmore show that turnover last year jumped by 14 per cent to £63.6 million, while profit before tax leapt 72 per cent to £15.7m.

The accounts noted: “Beam Suntory has a portfolio of brands from all over the world. The Scotch whisky brands are a key part of the business and its future strategy.”
