Mogwai tread the boards for a good cause

Skateboard shop Focus Scotland has rolled out a couple of interesting initiatives to celebrate its 14th anniversary.

The Edinburgh store has teamed up with Mogwai to create a range of boards featuring the Glasgow “post-rock” band’s album covers, with £5 from every sale going towards a project to build a skatepark under the M74 in Pollokshields.

Sibs Roberts of Focus explains that the collaboration came about through his love of Mogwai’s music and the fact that the band’s guitarist and vocalist, Stuart Braithwaite, is a skater.

“I suggested the idea over a number of off-the-cuff e-mails, and here we are,” Roberts adds. “Hopefully people will be as stoked on this as we are.”

Focus has also joined forces with Edinburgh craft beer bar The Hanging Bat to brew up a 5.6 per cent IPA called Monument to commemorate legendary skate spot Bristo Square.

Only 40 bottles have been produced, and the shop is asking for a donation of £2.50 for each one, with the takings being donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
