McGrigors appoints UK partner

McGRIGORS, the law firm, has restructured its board and promoted Kirk Murdoch to the newly created role of UK senior partner as part of a plan to raise its profile beyond Scotland.

Murdoch, who looked after the firm's three offices north of the Border, will effectively act as company chairman.

Richard Masters remains as managing partner - a role similar to chief executive - while Philip Burroughs, formerly joint senior partner who looked after the firm's London operation, will step down from the board at the end of this month. He will continue to run McGrigors' property practice in London.

Murdoch said the changes, which bring it closer to the governance structure of a traditional corporation, tie in with the Glasgow-headquartered firm's ambition to compete with UK-wide practices such as Eversheds.

It has offices in Aberdeen, Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Manchester and has been beefing up its ranks south of the Border.

Last month it created waves in the Manchester legal market when it poached a ten-strong infrastructure team from Hammonds, including its former international head of construction, David Moss.
