McDonald's announces it will reopen 15 UK branches this month - with a reduced menu

The fast-food giant has finally revealed opening dates.

McDonald’s has announced when restaurants will re-open across the UK amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The fast-food chain has been closed since March due to lockdown, but it is set to open 15 stores on May 13.

The menu will be reduced, and branches will only be open for delivery.

To help keep staff and customers safe, McDonald’s will be installing perspex screens at checkouts and will ask customers to respect social distancing rules.

Customers will also be asked to pay for their food with card and contactless payments where possible and will be able to order from Uber Eats and Just Eat from the opening date.

Information on which exact stores will be reopening is going to be revealed next week.

Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s CEO UK and Ireland, said: “As part of our reopening planning, we have been listening to you and our employees, and we have worked closely with UK and Irish governments and trade bodies to help ensure we do this responsibly. We have deliberately taken our time, we want to get this right.

“We sought the views of our employees as we worked through our reopening planning, to give us all confidence in the measures we are introducing to keep them safe. We understand everyone has been affected by this global crisis differently and therefore when it comes to returning to work, our people will be encouraged to make the right decision, based on their personal circumstances.”

He said the company has been running tests to explore the safest way to reopen the restaurants.

He added: “The restaurants involved will be announced next week as we work through inviting our employees back to work and supporting our delivery partners to prepare for our gradual return.”
