Mayfield to chair retail association

The BRC said the former British Army officer will take the reins as chair of the trade association when Sir Ian Cheshire stands down at the end of September after a two-year term.

Mayfield will take on the temporary role of vice chair from May.

He said: “I am very much looking forward to working with Ian for the next six months and then chairing the BRC as we continue to modernise and campaign on behalf of the whole industry.”

He said it was critical that the industry continue to have “a strong and effective trade association to galvanise retail employers and attract the very best new talent from across society into retail”.

Mayfield has been chairman of John Lewis Partnership, a BRC member, since 2007 and also chairs the UK Commission for Employment and Skills.
