Marketing society raises a toast to brightest stars of the Scottish sector

WHISKY brand manager Ken Grier won the top prize in the Marketing Society Awards presented in Edinburgh last night.

Grier, who is director of malts at the Edrington Group, was named Marketing Star of the Year for his work on the Macallan.

David Amers, planning director at the Leith Agency, was named Agency Star of the Year. He is the brains behind many of the Scottish Government's social marketing campaigns.

The Scottish Government won Marketing Team of the Year and the Union picked up Agency of the year.

The Social Marketing Award was given to the Bridge, for its Saving Lives campaign which promoted awareness of bowel cancer screening.

Whitespace, which developed digital marketing and website support for the gluten-free Genius Bread, won the Alan Frame Inspirational Award.

The Marketing Society Star Awards, sponsored by The Scotsman as media partner, were held at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

They aim to promote a better appreciation of marketing from the classroom to the boardroom.

Mearns Castle Academy from Newton Mearns, Glasgow, won the School Award, having developed a marketing plan for McDonald Aviemore Resort.

The Scotsman's sister newspaper the Edinburgh Evening News picked up an award in the promotional excellence category.

Graeme Atha, director of the Marketing Society said. "It was great to see such a galaxy of talent being recognised representing all sectors of the marketing community from strategic thinkers to the creatives across a wide range of agencies.
