Marketing firm launched in lockdown looks to double team

A marketing agency launched during lockdown plans to double its workforce in the next 12 months after achieving a £300,000 turnover in its first year.

Dundee-based agency BlueLime Marketing was initially set up as the in-house agency for specialist construction investment company United Capital but now works for companies across Scotland.

It has already filled two full-time positions and plans to double the size of the team in the next 12 months. It has also invested in a fully equipped podcasting and vlogging studio, based in Affinity Business Centre in Dundee.

Managing director Fraser Kirk said: “BlueLime started out as a way to manage the marketing requirements of United Capital and as we progressed through the lockdown period, we simply responded to demand from other businesses needing marketing support.

“The demand from the market took me by surprise but I think many business leaders wanted to ensure their company not only survived the Covid crisis but was in a position to quickly re-start as soon as restrictions allowed.”

Last month, United Capital said that its construction company McGill and renewables contractor Alliance Electrical will merge to create a business with a £15 million turnover.

The newly merged business and its more than 100 employees will operate from the McGill offices on Harrison Road in Dundee.

United Capital has a target to grow to a £500m turnover business over the next three to five years. Acquisition deals completed last year included that of Glasgow-headquartered central heating and electrical service provider Saltire Facilities Management.
