Mansell wins £50m of public sector contracts

CONSTRUCTION company Mansell has scooped a series of contracts in the Central Belt worth more than £50 million.

Public sector projects won by the firm include two schools in Ayr and Kilmarnock, a police station in Renfrew and a swimming pool in Dundee.

The company is also turning the St Andrew's House office block in Glasgow city centre into a hotel and is building a lifeboat station.

Callum Leslie, the firm's newly-appointed regional director in central Scotland, said: "It's already shaping up to be an incredibly busy year for Mansell in Scotland."

George Hood, divisional managing director, added: "Considering the challenging economic climate, which has impacted heavily on the construction sector in recent times, these new business wins are a very encouraging sign for 2011.

"The variety of new contracts won north of the Border reflects the breadth and depth of talent Mansell has to offer in Scotland."

The group - which is owned by London-listed Balfour Beatty - has its Scottish head office in Aberdeen, with bases in Dundee, Edinburgh, Elgin, Glasgow and Perth.

News of the contract wins comes as family-owned housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel announced that it had appointed former Applecross head of design Roger Bainbridge to lead its design team.

Bainbridge will manage the company's architects and will help with brand development.
