Luxury brand Strathberry to open in prestigious Edinburgh site

A Scottish luxury goods brand whose handbags are favoured by the likes of Meghan Markle is set to open its first Edinburgh flagship store early next month – on Multrees Walk.

The group, which is based in the Scottish capital, said it is “thrilled to become part of one of the most exclusive destinations for luxury shopping” in the city. It will sit alongside prestigious names such as Burberry, Mulberry, Coach, and Louis Vuitton.

The new Strathberry store complements its existing retail sites in London – in Burlington Arcade – and Shanghai, and will showcase exclusive launches, products and events, as well offering a luxury shopping experience that includes personalisation and gift-wrapping services. The brand has previously opened on Edinburgh’s Melville Street and its products – known for their “instantly recognisable bar closure and minimalist design aesthetic” – are stocked around the globe.

Strathberry was founded in 2013 by husband-and-wife duo Leeanne and Guy Hundleby, as they explored a joint passion for design and high-end leather goods during their travels through the mountain regions of Spain. It started out in a townhouse in Edinburgh.

Its products are all designed in the Scottish capital, with each one taking at least 20 hours to make by hand – “lovingly crafted in Spain by the finest artisans, using only the best quality Spanish leathers”.

Leeanne Hundleby said: “We are incredibly excited to open on Multrees Walk and to bring Strathberry into our hometown, and in such a vibrant and exclusive part of the city. This feels like the perfect way to celebrate our Scottish roots and connect with our local customers in a new way.”

The interior of the new flagship store is inspired by fashion designer Pierre Cardin’s iconic Palais Bulles, which was the setting for one of Strathberry’s campaigns.

The Duchess of Sussex sent the “proudly Scottish” brand’s profile skyrocketing when she was seen with one of its Midi Tote Tri-Colour bags on her first royal engagement with Prince Harry. Other high-profile fans of the luxury brand include Lady Gaga, Katie Holmes, Rose Leslie, Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio and Julianne Hough.
