Longannet Power Station demolition: Multi-angle footage captures dramatic controlled explosion

A loud bang was sounded and smoke filled the air over the Firth of Forth this morning as a structure containing the Kincardine site's boiler room, turbine hall and control room was razed.

Some residents revealed online how they believed the noise to be “thunder”.

Cameras were positioned at various angles to capture the moment.

The site’s chimney is expected to be torn down later in 2021.

Those who live close to the former coal-fired power station had been warned to expect “higher than normal noise levels” and “rising dust” in the days prior to the demolition.

In 2018, Spanish rolling stock engineering company Talgo, which specialises in manufacturing fast, lightweight trains for countries like the USA and Saudi Arabia, announced the Longannet site was the preferred location for its new factory.
