Long-haul flights boost Glasgow airport figures

GLASGOW airport enjoyed its busiest November in six years last month, according to figures released yesterday.

Almost 514,000 people travelled through its doors last month, up 3.1 per cent on the same period last year. November was the tenth month in a row of passenger growth for Glasgow.

A “strong demand” for long-haul routes to the likes of Dubai and the United States contributed to an increase of almost 11 per cent in international traffic, airport officials said. Celtic’s Champions League football clash with Ajax also boosted international traffic figures.

Airport managing director Amanda McMillan said: “We have been consistently growing passenger numbers over the course of the past three years and much of our recent success has been driven by the performance of our international routes, which is particularly pleasing.”

Meanwhile, Aberdeen airport recorded another month of passenger growth.

The latest figures show that more than 287,000 people used the airport last month, up 4.3 per cent on November 2012.

Last month also saw an 8.5 per cent rise in the number of passengers travelling through Edinburgh airport. A total of 685,929 people flew to and from Scotland’s busiest airport.
