Livingston chain Schuh reopens distribution centres and resumes online trading

Footwear retailer Schuh has reopened its website following government advice encouraging online trading.

The Livingston-headquartered chain had closed its online operations along with its physical stores last month as part of attempts to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, but is now rolling out a staggered reopening of its fulfilment centre with enhanced safety measures.

Chief executive Colin Temple said: “The decision to reopen our website is critical to preserve our business and is based upon government guidelines, which have also been endorsed by the Retail Consortium.

“Schuh has gone above and beyond to comply with government health and safety hygiene practice and deliver extensive welfare procedures within our fulfilment operation.”

Schuh operates around 120 stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland. More than 90 per cent of its staff have been furloughed with government support.
