Lawson steps down from dairy role

JACK Lawson is stepping down as secretary and treasurer of the Scottish Dairy Cattle Association after three decades holding both posts – although he will retain responsibilities in the organisation.

Taking over his position is Janette Mathie, a regional manager at the Cattle Improvement Service, who is well known to most dairy farmers in Scotland.

The SDCA annual meeting also produced a new chairman. Taking over the top seat from George Templeton, of Knowe, Auchinleck is Johnny Cousar of Howcommon Farm, Craigie.

Cousar is a long-serving board member of Holstein UK and is currently in charge of Holstein national shows and sales.

Lawson said: "The SDCA has always been at the forefront of initiatives which benefit the dairy farmer and although we have always kept clear of the political arena we have been responsible for a number of developments which lead the way in the UK.

"Our annual scholarship awards have sent many keen young farmers overseas to study and learn further.
