Law bans uninsured cars - in your drive

Drivers face having their vehicles clamped on their driveways or even seized due to low awareness of new rules making it illegal to leave cars off the road uninsured.

It was confirmed on Monday that the continuous insurance enforcement legislation will come into force in June, making it an offence not only to drive an uninsured vehicle, but even to keep one, unless it is subject to a statutory off road notification. Almost six in 10 drivers have not heard about the new laws, according to a survey of AA members.

Around one in every 25 cars on the UK's roads is not insured and drivers face fines, clamping and having their car seized if they fall foul of the new rules.
