Junior chambers' members placed at the sharp end for charity funds

Five fearless volunteers from Junior Chambers International's (JCI) Edinburgh branch are preparing to brave broken glass to raise more than £1,200 for the Barnardo's Caern Project and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which runs Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park, in Strathspey.

Simone Medonos, JCI Edinburgh communities and environmental director, is one of the fundraisers who will walk barefoot over 20 feet of broken glass. She says: "I'm quite nervous but I'm looking forward to challenging myself and I want to prove that I can do it."

While JCI Edinburgh's members will be treading on glass, former Edinburgh Comedy Awards "best newcomer" Tim Minchin will be treading the boards to entertain diners at the Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland's poets lunch in Glasgow in September to raise money for the charity's scholarship programme.
