Jeweller targets mobile phone sales

A SCOTTISH jeweller that stocks brands such as Gucci, Emporio Armani and Hugo Boss has launched a dedicated mobile phone website to allow customers to buy products using their smartphones.

Irvine-based Rox - which has three stores in Glasgow and a branch in Aberdeen - commissioned Ayr-based Webage to construct the site, which the jeweller hopes will boost its web traffic by a further 10 per cent.

Kyron Keogh, managing director and joint-owner of Rox, said: "Online sales now account for 15 per cent of our annual turnover and, with the rapid increase of smartphones, we felt it was essential to upgrade our website to offer customers a superior browsing experience.

"Traditionally, jewellers rely on in-store purchases, however we have seen a real surge in the popularity of our website. We want to make sure that the shopping experience is as smooth as possible for customers who want to shop online as it is for those that shop in our boutiques."

The 25,000 investment in the mobile phone site comes on top of last autumn's 50,000 website revamp, which has helped to pull in an average of 75,000 visitors each month.

Rox also invested 1 million last year to quadruple the size of its flagship boutique in Glasgow's Argyll Arcade.
