Jet2.com flies the flag for Glasgow

Leisure airline Jet2.com will create 50 jobs when it brings a third aircraft to Glasgow airport next year to cope with growing demand for its holidays.

The firm, which started flying from Glasgow in March, said yesterday that the service had transported 250,000 passengers in its first season.

Based on its success so far, the Yorkshire-based company is adding destinations, including Geneva and New York this winter and Spanish hotspots Barcelona, Murcia, Ibiza, Malaga and Lanzarote for summer 2012.

It is also providing additional flights to the popular holiday destination of Dalaman in Turkey and to Nice in the south of France.

To provide the extra capacity, a third Jet2.com aircraft will be based at Glasgow from Easter, bringing with it 50 new pilot, cabin crew and ground staff jobs.

Chief commercial officer Steve Heapy said: “Our first year at Glasgow airport has been tremendously successful. Adding nine new destinations demonstrates our commitment to growth and we aim to continue to add routes that reflect our customers’ holiday choices.

“Majorca, Turkey and Cyprus are proving extremely popular at the moment.”
