Jenny Milligan is Lockton response to adversarial building sector

Insurance broker Lockton has appointed experienced arbitrator Janey Milligan as a consultant to its professions team in Scotland as difficulties in the construction industry lead to an increase in disputes.

Milligan is managing director of Construction Dispute Resolution, and was chairman of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Scotland from 2007 to 2008.

Lorraine Boyle, managing partner of Lockton in Scotland, said: "The prevailing tough economic conditions in the construction industry are affecting every profession related to it.

"We are seeing contracts become more adversarial as low margins lead to aggressive claims, and an escalation, too, in disputes with professional advisers. In this environment, having access to someone with Janey's breadth and depth of expertise is an enormously valuable resource."

Milligan said that while construction was picking up, good risk management remained "critical."
