Jamie Oliver's Aberdeen restaurant among six to close

Jamie Oliver is to close six of his Jamie's Italian restaurants, including one in Aberdeen, amid 'tough' trading and the uncertain outlook following the Brexit vote.

The closures, which also include eateries in Cheltenham, Exeter, Ludgate Hill in London, Richmond and Tunbridge Wells, will affect some 120 employees, but the company said it hopes to offer them alternative roles.

Simon Blagden, chief executive of the Jamie Oliver Restaurant Group, said: “As every restuarant owner knows, this is a tough market and post-Brexit the pressures and unknowns have made it even harder.”

He added: “These closures are in no way a reflection on the the dedication and commitment of our staff and my first priority is to try and secure those affected alternative jobs. Where this isn’t possible, we’ll be working with them to find alternative employment.”

Jamie’s Italian has other sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
