Isle of Harris Distillery reopens with 'warm welcome and stocked shelves'

The Isle of Harris Distillery in Tarbert has reopened its doors, complete with a host of hygiene and distancing measures in place.

It said that with lockdown measures easing, visitors to the island can “once again share the Harris spirit and story in person… with a warm welcome and stocked shelves waiting for everyone”.

The distillery said its team looks forward to “welcoming the many travellers who have already made the journey to its shores this summer or are making plans to be there very soon”. The tours and canteen will remain closed, and rules in the shop to keep all visitors safe include a one-way system and protective glass screens around the till area.

The distillery originally opened its doors in September 2015, realising the vision of Anderson “Burr” Bakewell, who wanted to help combat the long-term decline in the island’s population. The distillery started life with just 10 people, and now has almost 40 permanent staff.
