Irish data firm sets up first base north of Border

An Irish data management company has secured its first Scottish base, creating 20 jobs, on the back of a six-figure sum to support the development of a facility in Livingston's Almondvale Business Park.

Asystec has received £150,000 in regional selective assistance funding from Scottish Enterprise and is to establish a centre of excellence for “big data” services as part of plans to grow revenue to £14 million by 2018.

The firm chose Livingston to be close to key American partner EMC Corporation, and the big data development and operational management centre – expected to open early next year – will focus on storage and backup solutions, data governance and data management.

Asystec managing director Les Byrne said the business believes the base in West Lothian “will provide us with the ideal launch pad to a number of international markets, initially in the UK and then beyond”.
