Hay–Smith finally gives up whisky

Accountancy and business services firm RSM Tenon has coaxed Brian Hay-Smith away from the whisky industry to take on the role of outsourcing director in Scotland.

Hay-Smith spent the last 11 years at Chivas Brothers in a number of roles, most recently as financial controller.

He will work alongside Keith Marshall and will be based between RSM Tenon’s offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Grangemouth and Perth. The firm has 20 directors and more than 250 professional staff at the offices.

Orchard Energy has promoted Ross McCall as regional manager of the firm’s Glasgow office as it continues to expand its Scots operation. His role will be to develop the team and client base in Scotland and raise awareness of the company’s services.

The energy management specialist recently moved its Scottish headquarters to larger premises on the outskirts of Glasgow as it prepared for growth following a string of contract wins.

McCall, formerly an energy adviser with the firm, said that with the client base growing at a rate of ten new businesses per month in Scotland, the company is growing its team north of the Border.

Hospitality professional Kay Harrison-Mann has her sights set on the stars as she takes over as general manager of Edinburgh’s Macdonald Holyrood Hotel. Running the 156-room hotel near the Scottish Parliament is the latest career move for Birmingham-raised Harrison-Mann, who has been with Macdonald Hotels for more than a decade.

She said: “Bringing Macdonald Holyrood up to a five-star standard is an appealing target and in the months ahead it is my aim to ensure we promote all that this fabulous hotel has to offer.”

Meanwhile, Dunfermline-based company Optos was pleased to welcome New Zealand prime minister John Key as one of the first people in his country to have his eyes imaged using its scanning technology.

Key had an optomap image taken while visiting the first optometrist’s practice in the country to have the Optos 200Dx installed.
