Go Ape sales climb to record high despite wet summer

Forest adventure firm Go Ape has shrugged off last summer's rainy weather after enjoying record turnover in Scotland.

The firm said its three sites north of the Border – in Aberdeenshire, Peebles and Stirlingshire – raked in sales of £1.2 million for its 2015 season, an increase of 3 per cent over the previous year.

More than 50,000 visitors swung through the trees in Scotland, while UK customer numbers totalled 860,000. Overall revenues for the company, which runs Tree Top Adventures across the UK, grew 8 per cent to £20m.

Managing director Jerome Mayhew said: “Despite one of the rainiest Scottish summers in history, we achieved a record turnover in Scotland in 2015, showing that regardless of the weather, there’s still strong demand for outdoor-based activities from Scots who love living life adventurously.

“Our Scottish customers can swing through the tree-tops on zip wires and tackle obstacles and rope crossings in the great outdoors, whilst enjoying some of the country’s most breathtaking scenery.”

The firm’s Aberfoyle site, in Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, is home to two of Britain’s longest zip wires, each stretching more than 400 metres, while its Peebles adventure in Glentress Forest boasts the highest zip in the country, located above a reservoir.
