Glencore eyes ex-BP buss Tony Hayward

TONY Hayward, the former boss of oil major BP who was ousted following the Gulf of Mexico disaster, is poised for a City comeback by joining the board of the world's biggest commodities broker.

It is understood that Hayward, who stepped down in October following the disaster last spring that killed 11 workers, has held talks with Ivan Glasenberg, chief executive of Glencore.

Sources say Hayward is likely to be appointed as a senior executive director at Glencore, ahead of the group's impending 30 billion flotation. Analysts say the former BP boss will be valuable for his extensive list of government contacts.
