Digital marketing company Senshi will allow staff to work from 9.30am to 3.30pm instead of the traditional 9 to 5 in a bid to promote staff wellbeing and efficiency.

Founder Chris Torres made the move after being inspired by developments in Sweden where many firms moved to the six-hour model last year.

Higher profits and productivity are said to have followed.

Mr Torres told The Sun that he was already reaping the benefits of changing to the Scandinavian system.

He said: “I first saw the idea on an ITV documentary. It was all about the Scandinavian model and I just thought, ‘They’re right’.

“I think people are too stressed these days and the average working day is far too long.

“When you do an eight-hour day, you don’t work the full eight hours, your mind is incapable of concentrating for that amount of time. So we have been trialling it for the past few days and so far so good.”

Under the new scheme, staff take five minute screen breaks every 45 minutes and take a 30 minute lunch.

Staff still get paid the same wage but instead work 30 hours a week.

Mr Torres added: “It’s more productive and, at the end of the day, we’re getting our work done. As long as the work is still getting done and the clients are happy then we’re happy.”

Agent Marketing, a firm in Liverpool, introduced a similar scheme last year.

The average working week in the UK is 42.7 hours.
