Glasgow-based online interviewing specialist Willo nets £250k

A Glasgow-based tech start-up that allows users to easily interview people on video at scale has raised a £250,000 seed round, which it will use in part to push the button on a major recruitment drive.

Willo, which said it has grown by at least 80 per cent each month since April, said the “significant” funding will not only enable it to add 24 staff, but also boost its international expansion, and advance product development. The capital has come from Guernsey-based 1818 Venture Capital and board members, and it comes after Willo earlier this year secured £20,000 from Scottish Enterprise.

The Glaswegian business said its platform is already used in more than 60 countries. Prior to the pandemic, 95 per cent of activity was in recruitment, but since March, 60 per cent of new business has emerged in areas including reviews, training, learning and development.

Chief executive and founder Euan Cameron said demand has shown “no sign of slowing down as we adapt to a new ­normal, and it’s part of the reason we have been able to secure investment to develop the platform and take our business to the next level”. He added: “With 1818 Venture Capital’s investment and expertise, we are very excited about the future.”

1818 Venture Capital chief investment officer Marc Cohen said that firm has used Willo, and been impressed. “While Willo’s growth has accelerated because of the pandemic, given the strength and vision of its management team, we truly believe the company has huge potential.”
