Glasgow is in line for an additional significant boost next month as the main air gateway for Commonwealth Games athletes, officials and spectators.
However, Edinburgh is expected to climb further ahead following the launch of seven new routes last month, including to Qatar, Chicago and Philadelphia.
It is expected to top ten million passengers a year for the first time this month while Glasgow’s total is nearing 7.5m.
Glasgow Airport managing director Amanda McMillan said: “May always gives us a taste of what to expect during our busiest months, with the summer timetable well underway and a real buzz in the terminal.
“With less than 50 days to go until the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, our focus now is to ensure that our multi-million pound investment programme is completed in time.
“The check-in hall is looking fantastic and the improvements we are making to the international arrivals area are well under way.”
