Galliford in line for £48m schools contract

Construction group Galliford Try today said that its Scottish division, Morrison, has been appointed preferred contractor for two secondary school developments worth a total of £48 million.

The contract, from public-private development company Hub South East Scotland, will see Morrison build the new Kelso High School in the Borders and Newbattle Community High School in Midlothian. Work is due to begin next year and the schools are expected to be finished in 2016.

Galliford Try also said that its facilities management business has been named preferred bidder to maintain both schools, and this contract could be worth up to £17m over 25 years.

Chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: “We are delighted to secure these significant projects, which reflect our reputation and strong market presence within this sector.”
