Freescale sells Lanarkshire site

American Electronics firm Freescale Semiconductor has sold its 800,000sq ft Scottish premises to a development company.

The firm closed its East Kilbride factory in 2009 but still carries out research and development at the site. It will lease back 70,000sq ft from Edinburgh-based buyer Clowes Developments Scotland, which is expected to redevelop the rest of the 26-acre site.

No value was disclosed but Iain Davidson, a director of Colliers International in Scotland who helped broker the deal, said it was "the largest industrial disposal in the west of Scotland for some years".
