Former Cairn executive Jann Brown honoured by Napier

A FORMER finance boss of Cairn Energy has been made an honorary doctor of business administration by Edinburgh Napier University, writes Emma ­Newlands.

Jann Brown was honoured at the university’s graduation ceremony. Speaking afterwards, she said: “It is a real honour to receive this award from a university which places the teaching of good governance at the very core of its business curriculum. The need for these skills in our leaders of the future is more pressing now than ever before.”

After completing a diploma in accounting at Heriot-Watt University, Brown joined KPMG in 1987 as a trainee chartered accountant.

Her roles have included senior tax manager at Deloitte, and chief financial officer at Cairn Energy. She also co-founded Magna Energy, a start-up backed by private equity.

Her honorary degree comes as it was confirmed that the target set by Lord Davies’s 2011 report for women to make up 25 per cent of FTSE 100 boards by the end of 2015 has been met.
