Farming: Breeders' boost for Moredun

John MacPherson, president of the Blackface Sheep Breeders' Association, handed over a £1,000 cheque this week to the world- renowned Moredun Research Institute to support research into sheep health and welfare.

There are more Blackface sheep in the UK than any other sheep breed. They are one of the hardiest breeds in the country and are the backbone of the Scottish sheep industry where their numbers are greatest.

In accepting the cash, John Jeffrey, chairman of the Moredun Research Institute, said the donation underlined the close and vital relationship between the scientists and the farmers.

"Animal health and welfare continues to be of prime importance to the livestock industry and we are delighted to put this money towards that aim," Jeffrey said.
