Famous Stirling hotel sees change of owner

A landmark Stirling hotel has changed hands as part of a multiple acquisition by a Newcastle-based leisure operator.

The Stirling Highland Hotel, along with establishments in Brighton, Cardiff, Durham and Harrogate, has been bought by Cairn Group. Together the five properties will add 665 rooms to the company’s 3,000-room strong portfolio.

Cairn said that each of the five hotels boasted a “prime location and rich heritage”.

Located in Stirling’s old town, a short distance from the castle, the Highland Hotel is sited in the old High School of Stirling, which dates back to the 1850s.

Cairn Group finance director Richard Warren said: “This is an incredibly exciting move for us. We are continuing to break into new territories and penetrate new customer bases.

“Each of the hotels is completely unique and operating successfully. We see huge potential for them within the Cairn Group portfolio.”

Savills and Rothschild jointly advised on the sale of the hotels.

Martin Rogers, head of UK hotel transactions at Savills, said: “We are delighted to have secured new ownership for these five outstanding hotels. The unique character of each hotel and their unrivalled locations ensure they are profitable business, attracting visitors all year round.”
