Ex-Newsnight anchor joins Weir Group

It’s all change in the press office of Glasgow pumps and valves giant Weir Group.

It has lured BBC broadcaster Raymond Buchanan who presented his final Newsnight Scotland programme last week when he interviewed Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont. He now takes up the role of “group communications” at the FTSE 100 firm on 16 September.

He will be replacing another former Beeb man, Jonathan Milne, who will be leaving Weir after a handover period in October for what at this stage he is only referring to as “a senior communications role in Aberdeen”.

Buchanan, who spent 14 years at the BBC, will get an extra team member as well. Ross Easton, who arrives at Weir today from SSE, takes the group’s media team headcount to five.

Mark Locke, head of media and public relations at Edinburgh-based pensions group Aegon UK, has left after eight years to join Mark Polson at pensions and investment consultancy Lang Cat. Brian Lewis becomes interim head of media at Aegon, working with Stephanie Melrose.

Real estate maintenance firm Novus Property Solutions is continuing to invest in its Scottish operations with the appointment of Derek Ferguson as strategic operations manager at the company’s Bathgate office. Ferguson has 30 years’ experience in the construction industry,

Ben di Rollo, director of Shapes Property Auctions, is taking up the new role of head of property management at Lomond Capital. Lomond recently recruited Malcolm Cannon from Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre to run its operations in the city.
