Evolving Senergy names first COO

ENERGY services company Senergy has marked a milestone in its evolution by appointing its first chief operating officer (COO).

Mike Bowyer will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Aberdeen-based business, which operates across the oil and gas industry and the alternative energy sector.

He was previously country vice-president for Halliburton, responsible for the company's UK business.

Senergy was formed in 2005 through the merger of sub-surface consultancy Reservoir Management and well engineering specialists Xcavo.

Chief executive James McCallum, who is based in the Middle East, said: "Appointing a COO represents a significant milestone for Senergy, and reflects how much we have evolved in just five years. I'm delighted that someone of Mike's calibre has joined the team as we move into an exciting new chapter of expansion on a global scale."

Senergy has more than 450 staff in the UK, Norway, the Middle East, Australia and south-east Asia.

Also beefing up its management structure is the Coakley Group, the Glasgow-based company behind a 22.5 million "bio-gas, waste management and renewable energy facility" being constructed next to the M74.

Tom Coakley, owner of the group, has moved from managing director to chairman and made two appointments to handle the day-to-day running of the business.

David Tannahill has been recruited from Anglo Irish Bank to become new managing director of the group, with a remit to predominantly handle its property portfolio.

Meanwhile, Ron Coakley has been appointed managing director of Proactive Energy – the Coakley Group's sister company – which is responsible for developing the M74 facility.

News of the appointments comes as Proactive Energy confirms that it has applied for planning permission for two wind turbines on the company's M74 site.
