Enterprise zone plea to help rescue Moray's economy

Elliot Robertson, chief executive of house builder Robertson Homes, has called for the return of enterprise zones to boost the Moray economy following the closure of RAF Kinloss.

It follows the heavily-discounted sale of Maxim, one of the last batch of tax-efficient enterprise Zones introduced in the 1980s.

It is understood both the coalition government and the SNP are considering bringing back the schemes which allow investors in property developments to benefit from significant tax breaks.

Robertson, who will meet parties in Holyrood and Westminster, said the "time is right for this legislation to be re-visited".

He added: "Although there are no current enterprise zones in Scotland, the methodology remains very relevant and, historically, has provided a steadfast way to secure the physical and economic regeneration of areas particularly affected by economic downturn."
