Election jitters hit Alexon sales

WOMEN'S clothing retailer Alexon yesterday revealed a 5.4 per cent drop in sales for the 19 weeks to 12 June, citing a continued lack of consumer confidence around the time of the general election.

The firm, which owns brands including Ann Harvey, Dash and Eastex, said its bottom line had been hit by distribution problems caused by the volcanic ash cloud and high investment in promotional activity.

It said it expected a dip in sales in some brands to continue around the Budget, but was on track for a good performance for the full year.
