Egg firm Glenrath enjoys profits rise despite order loss

A shortage of supply in the market for eggs has helped profits rise at family-owned Glenrath Farms.

The West Linton-based company also saw annual sales stay above the £50 million mark despite the loss of a substantial order from one of its largest customers.

Pre-tax profits at the company rose to £7.83m in the year to 31 May from £7.49m, with sales dipping by 3.5 per cent to £52.3m.

Chairman John Campbell said although there had tight supply in the market, “we are aware that there is major expansion within the industry which will have serious effect on the market going forward”.

He added that the firm’s investment was increasingly focused on free-range and barn production.
