Edinburgh waste tech firm boosts team on back of growth

A Scottish technology firm that helps clients such as BrewDog and Coca-Cola better manage their waste has boosted its senior team amid significant growth.

Edinburgh-based Topolytics has announced four new key hires, bringing its team up to 12.

They include Michael Lloyd, who has worked with Scottish tech firms Craneware, Qikserve and SnapDragon-IP, who joins as chief product officer.

Chris Greening, who has worked with Scottish start-ups including Care Sourcer, MRM and Stampede, becomes head of engineering. The recruitment drive has also seen Michael Antczak appointed as senior front-end software engineer, and Kenneth Porter as a data scientist.

The appointments come after a number of UK and global contract wins for Topolytics, which is currently working with the UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs to create a digital waste regulation system for the UK, analysing the hundreds of millions of regulated waste movements around the country each year.

Topolytics recently won an Innovation Award at the UK’s National Recycling Awards 2021.

Chief executive Dr Michael Groves said expansion of the team comes as the firm targets significant growth.

“Like other industries, waste and resources management is trying to maximise the opportunities created by new technologies and different market expectations. We are proud to be at the forefront of this global shift.”

The company’s WasteMap platform helps customers gain better insight into the type and quantity of materials and where it is in the waste system.

Dr Groves founded the company after 20 years’ experience in environmental management and sustainability reporting in the UK and Asia.
