Accountancy and business advisory firm Johnston Carmichael has bolstered its leadership team with a string of promotions, including a new partner and director in its Edinburgh office.

Barry Masson, who is based in the capital, has been promoted to the position of partner. He is credited with been integral to growing the firm’s audit practice and, in particular, the development of its financial reporting advisory offering.

Gavin Paterson, who joined the firm in 2009, has been promoted to director. Other new directors include Inverness-based Allison Dalton and Martin Bannerman, tax adviser Gillian McColgan based in Aberdeen, Jane Mitchell based in Inverurie, innovations taxes specialist Andrew McMillan based in Dundee, and Michael McAllister who leads the payroll team, based in Glasgow.

Mark Stewart, partner and head of the Edinburgh office, said: “Everyone in the Edinburgh office is extremely proud of Barry and Gavin, who are both absolutely deserving of these promotions. Their expertise has been vital in recent months and it is fantastic to see their hard work rewarded.

“Both have played key roles in our ongoing efforts to guide our clients during the coronavirus pandemic, an undeniably challenging time for the business community.

“We are thoroughly committed to supporting our talented employees right across the firm and, in Edinburgh, I believe that we are doing exactly that.

“This December saw 36 of our people promoted across a range of offices and business lines, taking our total promotions for the year across the firm to 70. They are all extremely deserving of the recognition and I am certain that they will continue to drive the firm forwards as we enter 2021.”
