Dividend pay-outs top £20bn in Q3

DIVIDEND pay-outs to shareholders by UK companies topped £20 billion in the third quarter, despite the market turmoil – marking the first time this has occurred since the second quarter of 2008.

According to research from Capita Registrars, the haul was up 16 per cent on the same period last year as well-managed companies continue to enjoy growth, despite the gloomy macro-economic picture.

Dividend growth among FTSE 100 firms outpaced that of the FTSE 250 index for the first time since the closing quarter of 2009.
