Director Dealings: Gemfields in demand

THE success of a recent auction of emeralds by miner Gemfields has seen shares in the group edge up in recent days. Canaccord, the company's broker, raised its valuation to 25p following the sale which raised more than expected, with disposals of low-quality emeralds in particular achieving more than double the estimate.

The company's shares are up more than 200 per cent over the past year but several directors went in to the market last week to increase their stakes. Chief executive Ian Harebottle bought 200,000, chairman Graham Mascall 150,000, chief financial officer Devidas Shetty 100,000 and director Sean Gilbertson 200,000. They each paid 16.8p for the shares.

• Four directors at electronics group HiWave Technologies have bought shares at 4p. The directors, led by chief executive James Lewis, bought a total of 887,500 shares to take their combined holding above 3.3 million.
