Demand for office space forces out managing director

SERVICED offices always like to emphasise that "flexibility" is one of their key assets but Julie Calder, managing director of Abbey Business Centres, has had to take the word literally when it comes to her own office space.

Demand for space at the company's business centre on Edinburgh's Princes Street – where Calder is normally based – has been so great recently that she has been forced to make way and vacate her own office and work from her home in the city's Blackhall area.

With business centres catering for short- and long-stay clients, Calder hopes there will be space to allow her to return to her normal place of work soon.

As it happens, the surge in demand was well-timed: Calder was away from her desk anyway last week, first chairing the annual conference of the Business Centres Association in London and then jetting off to Spain for another event.
