Deadline looms over tax credit claims

TIME is running out for people eligible for tax credits to renew their claims, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has warned.

It needs to know by 31 July of any changes in circumstances not reported over the past year, such as adjustments to pay or working hours. Those expected to renew their claims have been sent both an annual declaration form and an annual review notice. For more information, visit the money, tax and benefits section at www.direct.gov.uk.

The tax office also warned of fake e-mails being sent out by fraudsters claiming to represent HMRC and asking for people's credit or debit card details so it can pay a tax rebate. HMRC only contacts people due rebates by post, never by phone or e-mail.
