Data outfit Aquila flying high as turnover takes off

Data analytics company Aquila Insight is eyeing the opening of its first overseas office after booking a surge in turnover.

The firm said today that its operations in Edinburgh and London had expanded rapidly on the back of high-profile client wins including British Airways.

It is currently recruiting around 12 analysts every quarter across its UK offices and has grown from two founding partners to more than 75 staff. Turnover has more than doubled year-on-year since 2012, increasing to £4.2 million for the last financial period.

Aquila, which flagged “ambitious plans” to expand internationally, has built up a blue-chip client base that includes Sony Mobile, Tesco Bank and Swinton Insurance.

Warwick Beresford-Jones, who co-founded the firm with John Brodie, said: “Big data is forecast to add over £241 billion to the economy by 2020 and the UK has the opportunity to be a world leader in big data and analytics.”
